The Baby Lullaby Music

Posted by admin on June 9, 2009

lullaby baby

There is nothing sweeter than my grandson’s response to baby lullaby music. The calming influence is almost immediate, even if he, Zander, is a little hungry or in need of a diaper change.

I’m so pleased that I learned the baby lullaby music from a baby lullabies CD, Brite Dreams, I played for his mother, my baby daughter, so many years ago. This particular selection of eighteen baby lullaby songs has soft, sweet and soothing baby music, as well as songs that are incredibly cute and fun. I love listening to and singing all of these songs to my darling little grandson.

My daughter and I were thrilled to rediscover ‘Brite Music’ and the baby lullabies music online! We listened to the audio clips and were thrilled with the memories that flooded back to us. We filled the room with ‘oohs’ and ‘ahs’ and, “Oh yeah! I remember that.” We just had to get those baby lullaby songs to have our baby listen to music. (I know, I know. I’m the grandma, but I still consider him ‘our baby’)

Research has shown that music can be very calming for a baby But what I trust even more is my own experience while raising my six children (yes, I said six) and now helping with my grandsons. I’ve watched them go from fussy and unable to be comforted, to calm and completely relaxed just by singing these lovely baby lullaby songs to them.

Mothers, your baby will probably love to hear YOU sing this baby lullaby music. Yes, it’s wonderful to hear the baby lullabies CD with its beautiful orchestral arrangements and professional singers. But once you begin to learn the melodies and lyrics, your baby will most likely even be more intrigued and soothed by you singing the baby lullabies songs. This means you can even use them when you are away from the CD player.

I highly recommend this baby lullaby music to anyone who knows and loves a baby Not only will it soothe and calm your baby but it’s likely you will love it, too. Like my daughter and me, you and your baby can have wonderful memories of these lovely baby lullaby songs for many years to come.

Music Therapy for Baby

Posted by admin on June 7, 2009

music therapy definition

Recently, we can often hear both from pediatricians and psychologists about benefits of listening to music for babies. Of course, it is not surprising at all, as already our grannies sang songs to babies, to calm them down. Are there any medical researches on this subject?

Excursus to history

THE ANCIENTS were the first who noticed a beneficial effect of music both on soul and body. They treated neural-mental illnesses with music, and tried to use it as anaesthetic in Middle Ages… But all these experiments were carried out with adults.

In the beginning of 20th century scientists already could see that it was curative for babies to listen to classical music and lullabies, that music not only develops children, but also makes them healthier.
Scientists decided to find scientific grounds of music therapy. And the first patients, who received treatment with music, were prematurely born babies.

What the researches showed

AS a rule, if a baby suffered from lack of oxygen during his prenatal development, no matter whether he is premature or not, his activity of cell ferments is lowered. After listening to classical music, activity of babies’ cell ferments rose. A cytochemical analysis showed this. They also took babies’ blood pressure, pulse, rhythm of breathing. And they always observed a classical reaction of adaptation: organism adjusted itself to environment and felt better.

Well, may be, children react this way to any sound irritant – alarm-clock ticking, conversation? May be, harmony and melody have nothing to do with it?

Researchers switched on a metronome for babies, which beat out a slow rhythm at a calm music pace. Babies behaved rather well: calmed down and fell asleep. But cytochemical analysis registered objectively: on the background of metronome working, an oppression of ferments took place in cells.

By the way, this is a proof of the fact that rock music with pronounced pulsatile rhythm is harmful for small babies.

creative therapy

When parents were going to take away their babies from hospital, doctors recommended them to continue carrying out music therapy procedures at home, along with massage, special gymnastics and exercises in water. Parents treated such advices in different ways, some of them switched on music for their babies, some of them did not.

But when a year later all these babies passed a checkup, interesting facts were discovered. Babies, who were constantly listening to classical music, coped better with neurologic defects, than the ones, whose parents did not believe in a healing power of music therapy. This way a reliable statistics appeared.

Which music should babies listen to?

EXCITABLE, fidget children should listen to melodies at a slow pace – ‘adagio’, ‘andante’. As a rule, second parts of classical sonatas and instrumental concerts have such pace. German scientists worked out main scientific literature on this subject, and German and Viennese classical music prevailed in their programs: Mozart, Schubert, Haydn… Later they added Vivaldi and Tchaikovski…

For example, this can be a second part of a ‘Short nocturnal serenade’ by Mozart, ‘Winter’ from ‘Seasons’ by Vivaldi, a duet of Lisa and Polina from Tchaikovski’s opera ‘Queen of spades’, lullabies.

A melody with words influences babies stronger, than a melody without words. And live singing is stronger, than instrumental performance recorded on CD. A language of singing does not matter, new-born babies can gladly listen to, for example, a lullaby by Brahms or Christmas motets in German language.

And babies, suffering from syndrome of distress, who nurse badly and sometimes even breathe spasmodically, should listen to musical compositions at ‘allegro’ and ‘allegro moderato’ pace by Mozart, Schubert, Haydn… For example: waltzes from Tchaikovski’s ballets ‘On troika’ from his ‘Seasons’, ‘Spring’ from Vivaldi’s ‘Seasons’, and also martial music.

Music therapy procedures are also of benefit for healthy, normally developing children. They also should be calmed down or, on the contrary, emboldened sometimes. This can be done with the help of relaxing or energetic music.
On no account, put on ear-phones on your baby. Our ears are adjusted to diffused sound by nature. Immature brain can receive an acoustic trauma because of directed sound.

Music therapy is contra-indicated to:

Babies with predisposition to fits.

Babies in a serious condition, which is accompanied by organism intoxication.

Babies suffering from otitis.

Babies, whose intracranial pressure increases sharply.

Rest on a cellular level

NOW parents have large selection of remedies – they can buy CD-discs with classical music in traditional performance. Or discs with classical music, arranged especially for babies. This music is accompanied by hand bells. Some may like such arrangement, other may not. You should see yourself your baby’s reaction.

You can also buy CD-records of classical music on the background of sounds of nature – rote, sound of rain, murmur of the forest…
Listen to music together with your baby and relax, as restless babies’ mothers just need a good rest, on a cellular level.

The Babies Love Music

Posted by admin on June 6, 2009

babies music

I am completely unable to carry a tune in a bucket. I joke that my parents named me No-La for a reason. So you might expect me to be the last person to encourage singing to your child. Yet hear I am, four kids later, a musical advocate.

There are lots of studies linking music to brain development. These are not why I advocate singing to your baby. There are other studies that talk about bonding. Nope, not my reason either. The fact is, your baby doesn’t know what an in-tune song sounds like. Your baby just loves it when you sing.

With my first child, I mostly stuck to the tried and true classical songs. Things that came with their own tune. We relied on “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and “Old MacDonald,” along with songs from church like “I Am a Child of God” and “Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam” (special emphasis on the ‘beam’ there). These songs brought huge grins to all of my children’s faces. Many times, when I sang, I would do so directly to them. I’d hold them in my lap and stare into their eyes. Other times, they’d sit on my lap with their backs to me and we’d sing. Still other times, we used music as a baby soother in the car. When your child is used to hearing your musical side, you’d be amazed at how much comfort you can give while driving down the road singing.

By the time my second child was born, my oldest was nearly 18 months. I had relaxed a bit as a mother. I was surprised at how much she really loved my made up “silly songs.” I would take songs that we already knew and change the words. For instance, we’d sing “Old McDawn had a farm….” (Dawn being my child’s name). As I grew more confident, we’d change the words altogether: “Silly Dawn liked to play…” (to the same tune). They loved when I used their names in the song; in fact, they still do. But they loved hearing their favorite tunes with different words, as well. And sometimes we got really nonsensical: “Twinkle twinkle up in space, How I wonder about your face.” Yes, this makes absolutely no sense – but my kids die laughing. And when my kids got even older, we used songs to help them spell; the M-I-C-K-E-Y-M-O-U-S-E song has the same number of letters as my son’s name, so we used that to help him remember how to spell it. We made up a song to help my daughter remember that “F-R-I-E-N-D” spells friend.

So sing to your baby, even if you don’t think you are capable. They may grow up belting out songs that are completely out of tune, but they will enjoy it. You’ll bond with your baby and make them smile. And who knows – you may even catch yourself having fun!

Dvd Viewing Can Help Babies Learn

Posted by admin on June 5, 2009

Dvd Viewing Can Help Babies Learn

Why is it that so many people are taking an all or none view on baby DVDs? The content varies so dramatically among the various baby DVDs that this approach is not a logical approach. If one looks at the variety of different baby videos, it is easy to see that most are passive, entertainment-based DVDs designed to occupy the baby in a fun way while the parent is busy.

I have been an infant researcher and educator for more than 15 years now and I would not suggest showing these types of videos to babies and toddlers. In order for a DVD to be helpful for babies and toddlers, all of the following conditions must be met:

1) The DVDs must be interactive — not passive.
Dvd Viewing Can Help Babies Learn
2) The DVDs must be multi-sensory. In other words, what the babies see and hear should go together logically. In addition, babies and toddlers should be encouraged to say words and do physical actions related to what they are seeing and hearing. This multi-sensory approach is very important because infants and toddlers have tens of thousands of new synapses forming every second. Many of these new connections go from the visual cortex to the auditory cortex and to and from the somatosensory cortex, if the babies do some action. Many of the baby DVDs actually show infants visual images while playing sounds (usually classical music) that do not go with those images. This means that the new synapses would not go together in a logical way.

3) The DVDs must teach the children something of lasting value. If you watch many of the baby videos, you will see that there is very little content of any value to the baby besides an entertainment value.

4) The DVDs should be designed to teach babies language skills. The videos mentioned in the recent study have very little spoken or written language. There are only a few dozen spoken words in most of those videos compared to hundreds or even thousands of words in some other baby videos.

While I was studying infant development at Indiana University, my first daughter was only a baby. I did not like any of the video options that were available at that time, because they were too passive and did not teach enough language skills, so I designed a video that would teach her receptive, spoken, and written language while she was at the babysitter’s house. The Your Baby Can Read! videos are designed to be interactive, multi-sensory, educational, and language-rich — all of these factors would be more likely to increase a child’s vocabulary.

In the recent study that was released, it stated that babies learned fewer words watching Brainy Baby and Baby Einstein videos, the study was actually a telephone survey for both the TV viewing time and the number of words that the child knew. I am not surprised that babies who only watched entertainment videos would score lower on verbal scores. These videos have very few spoken words, so watching them would give the children fewer opportunities to learn words compared to children who were watching videos with more language or who were doing other learning activities besides watching TV. It is also important to realize that this study could not have shown a causal relationship due to the way it was conducted. It does not show that watching those videos caused their vocabularies to be lower.

A considerable amount of research shows that infants and toddlers have a natural window of opportunity for learning language. While most of the other baby videos have little language in them, our Your Baby Can Read! DVDs are actually designed to teach the babies and toddlers written, spoken, and receptive language.

* Studies show the earlier the child is taught to read, the better the child reads.

* Studies show that the earlier the child is taught to read the more likely the child actually wants to read.

* The gap between the early readers and the later readers tends to increase over time, showing the long-term effects of early reading.

* Lower IQ children tend to benefit the most from learning to read early.

* We have many thousands of parents who have written us notes telling us how well their babies and toddlers are reading after watching our videos.

Baby DVDs can be used as a great learning tool — especially if the parents watch the DVDs with their babies and interact with their babies appropriately.

The Best Baby Learning Toys

Posted by admin on June 4, 2009

learning baby toys

When choosing a toy for your baby, it’s always good to remember that toys could be very educational as well. They can help the development of logic, motor skills, observation, problem solving abilities, and all that while your kid is having fun. Here are some great suggestions that combine learning and entertainment. Most of these baby learning toys provide some form of education, suitable for babies and infants and are extremely popular.

The Magnet Artwork kit: It might sound serious, but it’s actually not. It’s an alternative to all the messy crayons and paints that kids use, but it aims at babies. It is a kit that consists of foam magnets, small mirrors, zip loc bags and some squeezable toys that babies can play with. The great thing about this particular toy is that it comes with a steel art board; you can actually use the same toy when your baby grows up a little, since the toy is suitable for kids from 0-7. Once they are babies, they can discover colors, feel the toys and learn how to squeeze something so that it produces some sound. Once they grow up a little, they can make flowers and butterflies, or anything else they might like. All pieces are reusable.

learning baby toys
Spiral Teach Balls: This is a baby learning toy consisting of small balls; they are big enough so that your baby cannot swallow them and very safe. Babies can learn how to execute simple ball throws. The toy enhances the coordination of hands and eyes and eyes with brain.

Kick N Play Piano: This is probably one of the best crib baby toys. You can attach it to your baby’s crib using the short strings that go around the bars. The toy has several modes and it’s basically a music toy. If your baby touches any part of the ‘keyboard’ then music will start playing, for a few minutes. Every song is complemented by lights. In another mode, if your baby presses a key animal sounds are produced. The funny thing is that this toy allows your baby to ‘create’ its own music; in one of the modes available, babies can press keys which refer to particular notes, so that they can produce their own music.

Baby Einstein Neptune Toy Bar: All babies love Baby Einstein toys. In fact, they are the most practical and smart baby learning toys available today. The Neptune Toy bar is a toy that can attach to the stroller or baby car seat. The bar consists of water with several sea creatures in it. As the stroller or car moves, the creatures float around. In addition, there are some toys, such as starfish and numerous types of fish that hang down from the toy bar. Once the baby reaches and grabs them, creatures start turning around and moving. This toy comes with a music option; once your baby presses the start button, some known classical pieces start playing. It’s a really fun and cute learning toy- quite affordable as well.

Children’s Gift Ideas: Babies, Toddlers, And Beyond

Posted by admin on June 3, 2009

Children's Gift Ideas: Babies, Toddlers, And Beyond No sight inspires more "oohs", "aahs" and similar expressions of adoration than a new baby. First time mothers may be surprised by the number of baby gifts they receive while pregnant and even after baby arrives. It is not uncommon for even strangers to bestow baby gifts upon an expectant mother.

The shower of baby gifts often doesn’t end after baby is born. Traditionally, until junior is able to fend for himself, you may find yourself swamped with an incredible selection of baby gifts that serve to entertain, pamper and humor your little ones.

At some point you’ll find yourself on the buying end of the totem poll. When your time comes to shower a new mom or family with baby gifts, keep in mind that not all gifts are created equally. Baby gifts can be broken down into several categories, including those for infants, toddlers and beyond.

There are several well intentioned items that end up in a corner or drawer never to be looked at again when received. To make the most of your best intention, keep in mind that infants seldom need elaborate toys and educational accessories to crowd their nursery. Some well appreciated and useful gifts for infants include the following:

Diapers – lots and lots of diapers. The typical infant goes through 5-8 diapers per day that translates into as many as 56 diapers a week or more than 200 per month. Baby may not express their enthusiasm at the offering, but a parent certainly will

Diaper service – this is a wonderful and thoughtful gift for someone considering using cloth instead of disposable diapers.

Wipes

Diaper Disposal System

Onesies of varying sizes and colors

Baby Bath Items

Socks to keep an infant’s feet warm

Caps

Teething rings

Hampers

Crib sheets, Changing Table Sheets
Children's Gift Ideas: Babies, Toddlers, And Beyond
Burp Cloths

Sleepers

Baby Bouncer Chair

Playpens

Crib Mobiles

Coming into the Toddler stage of course, everything changes! Here is where the gifts start becoming fun. Toddlers may make much better use of educational toys than infants. Among the offerings certain to be appreciated in this category include the following:

More teething toys

Anything colorful

Balls

Books

Baby Einstein or Disney Videos

Junior Bikes

Stuffed Animals

Musical Toys

Building Blocks

Toy Cars or other Vehicles

Discovery Centers

Once a toddler moves into an older stage, be sure to consult with parents regarding gifts. Find out what types of hobbies their child or children are into. In some instances some of the gifts that apply for toddlers apply to older children as well. These include bicycles, books, and animals (stuffed or otherwise).

Many well intentioned friends consider buying an older child a pet as a gift. Many well meaning parents do the same for their children, thinking having an animal will help teach responsibility. Keep in mind though that young children are still barely grasping how to take care of themselves, and while having a pet can be entertaining and enlightening, a majority of the care giving will likely still rest on the shoulders of the parents instead of the child.

The Basics Of A Baby Registry

Posted by admin on June 2, 2009

baby registry

You are anticipating a very special addition to your family: a baby. One of the best things you can do to prove your utmost happiness is to organize a baby registry for your baby. A baby registry is essentially a list of items you would want to have when the baby is born. With the registry, you need not worry of having two things at the same time from different relatives for instance. A registry is not just a set of list but keeps your family and friends informed as to what to give.

Many Web sites provide suggestions and tips on items to include in a baby registry. This list below I collated from other sites is just suggestions to provide you some idea for your own baby registry. But be sure to put everything on your list that you think you would like. Great chances are if you leave something off the list, you may regret not having that item. On the other side of the coin, you may find that you have an item or two that you never even used.

Here are some suggestions:

– Nursery/Safety to include Crib

– Bassinette or Co-sleeper

– Changing table

– Bathtub

– Health kit

– Swing, Bouncy or vibrating seat

– Car seats

– Stroller

– Monitor

Extras for Baby Baby Einstein Videos to include:

– Nursing/Feeding Pillow

– Crib Toy and Mobile

– Diaper Wipe Warmer

– Playmat /kick toy/ play saucer

– Glider Rocker

– Baby carrier

– Baby Wedge

– Fun Bedding Theme

– Diaper Bag

Clothes to include:

– Onesies

– Wearable Blanket

– Winter Wear

– Summer/Winter Hats

– Diapers, More Diapers, and even more Diapers.

But oops, we forgot about one important thing: the baby registry store. How to find one?

The first item of business will be to choose one or two stores that specialize in baby gear and make sure they offer a baby registry. Whether selection is from an online retailer or through a store, you will get to browse, canvas and then organize your wish list.

First, you choose the online store you want to use. There are many of these, some of which sell everything you could possibly need for a new baby, while others concentrate on clothing, or baby furniture. Make sure to research a little about the reliability and track record of the online stores.

At the online store, find their gift registry page.

Input your name and address, so your family and friends can locate your registry and so that the store can deliver the items to you once they are purchased. You will probably be asked to give your E-mail address and a password so that you can modify your registry at a later time.

baby registry

Once the registry is created, you will receive an E-mail confirmation with your information. You will then be ready to add the items you want to your registry. You do this by browsing the site and clicking on the ‘Add to Registry’ button (or similar) whenever you find something you like. Remember, you can always change this later. Should you want some counseling on what to include in your list, check the bestselling items (or similar page) at the store. Parents just like you are getting what they need too, so let them guide you.

Finally, when you are finished creating your registry, send an email to your friends and family letting them know that you have set up your baby gift registry, and the web address of the online store.

Your friends and family can then go to the site, find your registry using your name, and buy their gift for you from your selected list. The store will send the gift to you. Yes, it’s just as easy as that! The only task you will do is to un-wrap your gifts when they arrive.

Preschool educational toys can be as simple as blocks, puzzles, memory games, and plastic food. They can also be more involved with the newest technology where you child sits down to watch videos and follow along with books. The choice is yours. Below we will be looking at how a few of these Preschool Educational Toys can be helpful in getting your child ready for school.

Blocks are perhaps the simplest Preschool Educational Toys you can have. Blocks help build the child’s mind from discerning shapes to figuring out how to build something. While blocks are simple, they allow your child to develop the fine motor skills it takes to stack and stack without collapsing. They also enable your child to use imagination and start a project and finish it. This is also true of puzzles and the memory game. With puzzles, even the most simple, enables your preschooler to visualize the piece and how it will fit within the rest of the shapes. They also get the joy of seeing the picture complete. You will be amazed how many times they will do puzzles over and over again. Memory games allow the child to see the pictures and match them up with the corresponding piece.

The newest technology for Preschool Educational Toys involves children’s laptops as well as videos to watch. These can be helpful as your child gets older, but there is nothing like playing. Arts and crafts seem like a messy waste of time, but it can be huge in watching your child grow and develop. By all means get some LeapFrog Videos and even some Baby Einstein but make sure you don’t let those take the place of play.

The idea behind Preschool Educational Toys is to help your child develop their five senses as well as help them develop the use of their brain. A young child’s brains has the power to soak up as much information as you can supply. Whether you choose a Preschool Educational Toys or just some scissors and paper, choose them and allow your child the chance to develop while having fun.
